Tbilisi
This tour includes several hikes on unpaved paths and leads to heights of up to 3000. The weather in the mountains is changeable and difficult to predict. Sturdy, ankle-high shoes with a profile, comfortable trekking pants and a windproof rain jacket are required.
Along the Silk Road we travel to western Georgia, to the center of ancient Colchis. Kutaisi old town including farmers’ market and the most important highlights: Gelati Monastery (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Katskhi Pillar Monastery, Chiatura cable car town and excursion to the Okatse Canyon.
The first destination is Chiatura, A special feature are the Chiatura cable cars , which were built in the 1950s and cross the city. Short detour to the Katskhi Monastery (5th-6th century), whose small church sits spectacularly on a 40-meter-high rock column and is accessed via a ladder (access only permitted for monks). In Kutaisi, a short city walk, visit to the Bagrati Cathedral , from where you have a beautiful view of Kutaisi and the surrounding area.
Overnight in Kutaisi
Continue north to the village of Gordi and hike into the Okatse Canyon . The canyon is located in a very deep and narrow gorge. A hiking trail leads 750 meters over a secured high bridge and takes about 2-3 hours. On request, the journey continues (about 30 minutes off-road, for an additional charge) to the Kinchkha Waterfall , one of the largest waterfalls in Georgia.
